The Fèŝta de ra Bàndes (festival of the bands) takes place in the last week of August, from the 18th to the 25th, and features various musical events.
The celebrations involve more than 25 bands and folklore groups from Italy and abroad who, between concerts, parades, carousels and popular tradition, make a whole week live to the sound of music.
Between the notes of one band and another, voluntary work, memories of how people used to live, village culture, fun, hard work in the mountains, old and new sports and many other activities will parade, demonstrating that Cortina is a living village with its history, customs and traditions.
The Corpo Musicale di Cortina, with over 150 years of history, is the promoter of the traditional event. The most eagerly awaited moment of the festival remains the great folklore parade on Sunday along Corso Italia: an authentic leap into the past, featuring more than 20 international bands, associations and groups from the town, the traditional banners, typical floats, and the clothes handed down from generation to generation, worn by the members of the groups.
At the end of the parade, the eagerly awaited ‘Concertone’ in which all the groups take part, offering spectators a remarkable sight for the variety of colours and costumes.
The festival continues with a series of concerts and shows in the town centre squares and, at the end of the event, the Corpo Musicale di Cortina greets guests and citizens with a final march that closes
