From the Averau Refuge, which can be reached in summer by the Fedare chairlift from the Giau Pass, follow the 440-marked trail northwards, until the Sentiero delle Trincee (marked, but unmarked) turns to the left.
Follow the track below the imposing Averau group westwards, until it joins the path with the 441 markings, which leads to the left (south), leading easily (from below the area appears inaccessible) to the Forcella Averau saddle.
From here, it is almost level again to the Averau Hut, which offers a well-deserved rest stop.
