This itinerary develops in the province of Belluno, the "area of the Popes". Canale d'Agordo and Lorenzago di Cadore are the two main villages linked to this interesting proposal. Along the way, cultural, historical and artistic elements will enrich the tour.
The starting point is Canale d'Agordo, the home town of Pope Giovanni Paolo I. Following the main road, you arrive in Agordo: a nice village where you can admire the church and the beautiful venetian villa "Villa Crotta de' Manzoni". Before Ponte Mas, on the right side, you can see the Certosa di Vedana and the Church of San Gottardo, two historical buildings. Continuing along the main road, through charming hamlets, you join Pedavena and the famous brewery. You must stop and taste the "Birra Dolomiti" produced by the barley of the Dolomites!
The itinerary continues following the valley of the river Piave (on its left side), until Longarone where the famous dam of Vajont stand out on the valley on the right side. The tour brings you up to Pieve di Cadore, to admire the Piazza Tiziano, and continues until Lorenzago di Cadore. The Pope Giovanni Paolo II used to spend his holidays there, as well as Pope Benedetto XVI. Following the main road, pass trhough Auronzo and the forest of Somadida until Passo Tre Croci which brings you to Cortina d'Ampezzo. Left the famous mountain village, go back to Canale d'Agordo through Passo Giau, Alleghe and Cencenighe.

 

Notes

Partendo da Selva di Cadore si scende a Caprile-Alleghe e si prosegue fino a Cencenighe dove si svolta a destra per Canala d'Agordo. Circa 30 min di tragitto.
