Autumn has arrived in the Dolomites. The green meadows have given way to a landscape full of contrasts: in the vilages falling leaves, and crunchy leaf matter underfoot are a major mood. and the sky is coloured a deep blue. Autumn is a perfect time to go on holiday in the mountains, and there are many reasons why many people spend a few days in the Dolomites before the arrival of snow and skiing. During this time there is still plenty to do and see, including hiking, cycling and cultural activities.

But autumn in nature is also the time of the harvest and the return of the cattle from the mountain pastures. The farmers see the fruits of their hard work. Various autumn-themed festivals and fairs are held in Cadore, attracting tourists and families.

Picking mushrooms

The season has finally arrived for picking the fresh mushrooms that our forest offers us. Between the end of summer and the beginning of autumn, the tables are filled with them: porcini, cappelloni, chiodini. Usually in the autumn, a walk in the woods is organised with mycologists from Belluno with mushroom picking and an explanation of the species. An interesting event to discover many new species of mushrooms. Find out if it will be organised again this year!
If, on the other hand, you enjoy picking mushrooms on your own, click here to find out how to obtain a permit.

Admiring the foliage

Yellow, orange, red and gold. It is precisely in autumn that nature transforms, passing from vivid and intense shades of green to warmer and more fiery hues, such as those of the larch, beech and birch trees. This phenomenon is called foliage and in Cadore you can admire it in all its shades.
Wear trekking boots, choose one of the routes you like best, and don't forget to take your camera with you to immortalise this extraordinary spectacle: it is the silent gift of autumn.

Baking a cake

It is raining and it is the ideal day to cook a traditional local dish. There are so many recipes from our tradition that can be prepared even with simple and few ingredients. Take a look at Flavours of the Dolomites to discover some traditional recipes.

Taking a picture of autumn

What better season to shoot than autumn. There are plenty of forests in our area to admire the foliage. We suggest the Senes area, which can be reached either on foot or by car. There, you will find many types of trees with colours mixing together and it is really fantastic to admire them.
