Routes that enable you to discover the “Pale Mountains” and their legends: a maze of paths through nature and history revealing some of the most attractive, and often unfamiliar, aspects of the Dolomites.

In fact, Cortina d’Ampezzo is the location of the Great War Open-air Museums, the most extensive museum area dedicated to the First World War in the Dolomites. On these mountains, the Italian and Austro-Hungarian armies fought the War from 1915 to 1917.

Those tragic events have been commemorated by the creation of the largest museum focusing on the First World War, comprising the Lagazuoi, Cinque Torri, and Sass di Stria open-air museums, and the Forte Tre Sassi museum.

The museum area extends over an area with a radius of 5 km, and it enables visitors to learn more about the various aspects of the Great War in the mountains, on one of the most evocative walks in the Dolomites, amidst trenches, tunnels and bivouacs.
