Arrival
Capanna Alpina

The Ferrata Furcia Rossa is long and demanding, perfect for lovers of wide open spaces without confusion.

The route, which is not without charm and in places in a wild environment and with mountaineering difficulties, follows the tracks and emplacements used by Austrian troops in the First World War.

Starting from the Capanna Alpina in Armentarola, take path no. 11, which will take you along the Plan de Furcia traverse and then up to Col de Lòcia at 2069 m. Continue on to Passo Tadega (2157 m) and then descend to the Alpe Fanes Grande lake, about 2 hours from the start. Five minutes before the Malga Gran Fanes hut, take path no. 17 to the right to the turnoff for Monte Castello, where you keep to the left on the marked path towards Vallon Bianco (VB). Above you cross a large depression, proceed to the left and climb up between the rocks along a series of serpentines.

After passing some remains of the First World War, reach a fork and keep to the right, following the path downhill to a ledge, past a cave under a rock roof and to the Sella. There you will find the first ladder and the start of the Ferrata Furcia Rossa, whose ladders and cables were renewed recently.

Following the ferrata in about 1½ hours, you will reach the top of the Furcia Rossa III, one of the peaks of the Furcia Rossa chain, which faces the former Italian war posts of the Tofane, divided by the Val Travenanzes furrow.

Then descend for a short distance to the branch of the path (ruins of walls and signposts) crossed on the ascent. Keep to the left and, descending steeply, you come to a fork, then to a narrow ledge below the summit of Cima Furcia Rossa IV. Near a vertical wall, begin your descent down the characteristic series of steps to the end of the ferrata.

Follow the path for about 150m and then the scree to the right. At the end of the scree slope, follow an unmarked path until you meet path no. 17, returning along the route taken on the ascent.
