Domegge di Cadore is located on the right hand side of the upper Piave Valley, at 775 metres above sea level, on the banks of Lago Centro Cadore, framed by the towering peaks of Spalti di Toro, Monfalconi and Marmarole.

The town is dotted with numerous little churches some of them housing paintings of great beauty and artistic interest. One of the most fascinating places is the Rifugio Eremo dei Romiti on Monte Froppa, originally a hermitage now a mountain refuge restaurant, with a church dedicated to John the Baptist built alongside it. These types of religious retreats were home to a religious community of the Third Order of St Francis, known locally as Romiti, one of whom founded the hermitage. Over time the community was disbanded and the building abandoned, then eventually transformed into the delightful refuge it is today. Further restoration work has been done in the last few years to enhance its cultural heritage and a Via Crucis has been constructed along the path leading to the refuge.
